The more websites we sign up to, the more passwords we have to remember, this often causes us to use the same password multiple times, which can cause major problems if, for example, you use the same password for your Online Banking and Facebook accounts.

A simple way to remove the problems associated with remembering all those different passwords is to store them all in some form of database, thankfully there are programs out there to make this process painless. (more…)

Monday's complete failure of Research in Motion's (RIMs) UK BlackBerry Internet Service servers has highlighted just how reliant we have become on services offered by third parties.

Because of the failure of a group of servers in a UK datacentre, all of RIMs customers across the whole EMEA region were unable to access any of their e-mail or do anything besides make phone calls and send text messages. This is worrying. (more…)

SSL (Secure Socket Layer), the technology that protects everything from your online banking activities, to all your purchases on Amazon or the iTunes store has come under fire recently thanks to the actions of a small group of individuals who claim to have broken into the servers that issue the certificates that websites use to prove to you that you are indeed visiting the real one and not one set up by an identity theif.
